Equal Shares

The object of the game is to divide sets of objects into two or four equal shares. The player with the most points after playing four rounds wins. This is a game for two players.

Materials

  • Copies of Equal Shares Game page
  • 2 clear plastic spinners or 2 paper clips and 2 pencils to make spinners
  • Counters (roughly 40 per player)

Directions

  1. Place the plastic spinners over the two spinners on the Equal Shares Game page or use 2 pencils and 2 paper clips for spinners.
  2. Player 1 spins the Number of Objects spinner and counts out that many counters. Example: If the spinner landed on 28, Player 1 would count out 28 counters.
  3. Player 1 then spins the Equal Shares spinner to determine how to share the counters. Example: If the spinner landed on “Show 2 Equal Shares of” then the player would divide the 28 counters into 2 groups, and each group would have 14.
  4. Player 1 completes the sentence at the bottom of the Equal Shares Game page.
  5. Player 2 checks Player 1’s answer. If the answer is correct, Player 1 gets the same number of points as the number of shares. In this example, Player 1 correctly shared the counters into groups of 14, therefore getting 14 points.
  6. Roles switch and now Player 2 spins the spinners and puts the objects into equal shares.
  7. The winner is the player with the most points after playing four rounds.
