  1. Possible responses include: The numbers on the corners are all the same for each box. The numbers inside the box are all even numbers. If you add all the corner numbers the answer equals the number in the box. If you multiply the corner number by 4 the answer is the same as the number in the box.

    9 × 4 = 36

  3. Make a similar box with 36 on the inside.
  4. Emily wrote the number sentence 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12 for the box above with 12 inside. Write a multiplication number sentence for this box.
  5. Write an addition number sentence and a multiplication number sentence for the box you made for Question 3.
