TIMS Task

  1. 671 R5
  2. 2077
  3. 12,555
  4. 924 R7
  5. 16,125
  6. 51,000
  1. Possible response: I used paper and pencil:
    37,894
    − 25,339
  2. I thought 67 is close to 70 and 31 is close to 30 so I multiplied 70 × 30 = 2100. Since my answer was 2077 and that is close to 2100, I know my answer is reasonable.

Z. Use Operations

Choose a strategy to complete each problem. Use the pages from the Student Guide Reference section.

  1. 4702 ÷ 7 =
  2. 67 × 31 =
  3. 37,894 − 25,339 =
  4. 7399 ÷ 8 =
  5. 645 × 25 =
  6. 46,820 + 4180 =
  1. Show or tell the strategy you used to solve Question C.
  2. Show or tell how you can use estimation to make sure your answer to Question B is reasonable.
