Train

The object of the game is to place either 1, 2, or 3 counters on each turn to build a train. The player who places the tenth counter and finishes the train is the winner. This is a game for two players.

Materials

  • Each player will need 10 counters of the same color or kind (e.g., 10 cubes or blocks of the same color, 10 black or white beans, 10 pennies or dimes).

Directions

  1. At the start of the game, separate all the counters so that each player has ten counters of one color. Opponents must have a different color or kind.
  2. Two players will work together to build one train until the train has a total of ten counters.
  3. Player 1 starts by choosing 1, 2, or 3 counters.
  4. Players take turns choosing to add 1, 2, 3 counters at a time to the train.
  5. Players must say the number of counters in the train after their turn.
  6. Whoever places the tenth counter and finishes the train is the winner.

Variation

  • Change the end number from 10 to another larger number. Note: Players should start the game with a number of counters to match the end number.
  • If using a larger end number, player could also vary the number of counters to put down on each turn instead of 1, 2, or 3 counters.
