What Is My Pattern

The object of the game is extend the pattern correctly. The player with the most points after three rounds of the game wins. This is a game for two players.

Materials

• What Is My Pattern Game page from the Student Activity Book (2 or more copies)

Directions

1. Player 1 selects a pattern and does not share it with Player 2.
2. Player 1 shows four hops and circles four numbers on the first number line to show a growing pattern (e.g., 6, 8, 10, 12).
3. Player 2 is asked to extend the pattern by circling four more numbers on the number line.
4. Player 2 should then record the pattern in the boxes below the number line.
5. If Player 2 records the pattern correctly, he or she receives a point.
6. Players switch roles, with Player 2 selecting the pattern and Player 1 extending and guessing the pattern.
7. If Player 1 is correct, he or she receives a point.
8. The player with the most points at the end of three rounds wins.
