What Is Mass?

Mass is the amount of matter of an object. We can get an idea about the mass of an object by lifting it up. We can use a two-pan balance to measure mass.

Leveling the Balance

Before we use the balance, we need to make sure it is leveled. Neither pan can be higher than the other. You can use a small piece of clay to level your balance. Place the clay on the side that is higher. When the pans are even, the balance is level and ready to use.
