Most Common Sum

Nisha, Darius, and Carla wanted to know what sum they could expect to spin most often. They decided to spin both spinners 40 times. They wrote down the number sentences and sums in a data table. Then Nisha made a graph of the number of times each sum was spun.

Use the Spinning Sums Lab pages in the Student Activity Book to look for patterns in the sums when you spin matching spinners. Spin two spinners 40 times. Write down in the data table a number sentence and sum for each spin.

Use the data your group collected and graph the number of times each sum was spun using the graph page in the Student Activity Book.

  • Put Sums on the horizontal axis.
  • Put Number of Sums on the vertical axis.
  • Remember to title the graph Spinning Sums and to number the axis.
