LESSON 6 Spinning Differences

Nisha, Darius, and Carla were talking about the Spinning Sums activity they did in class. They decided to see what would happen if they used two spinners to make subtraction sentences. The spinners below show what happened when Darius and Nisha each spun one of the spinners.

Carla wrote 8 − 5 = 3 as the subtraction sentence for this spin. She told Darius and Nisha that the difference is 3. They decided to see what other subtraction sentences and differences they would get if they spun the spinner more times.

Use the Spinning Differences Lab pages in the Student Activity Book to look for patterns in the differences when you spin matching spinners.
