value

The possible outcomes of a variable. For example, red, green, and blue are possible values for the variable color.

variable

Something that varies or changes in an experiment. For example, in the Rolling Along in Centimeters lab, the different cars and the distance traveled are the variables.

variation

Something that is similar to something else but different in some way. For example, there are variations in palm sizes.

vertical axis

The vertical axis goes up and down on a graph. (See also horizontal axis.)

volume

1. The amount of space an object takes up.
2. The amount of space inside a container.
