Teacher:
Think about the meaning of each vocabulary term as you review reading and writing numbers in the millions and billions. Then give examples of the terms using the 2012 world population.
Not Sure:
Wow! That number is mind-boggling! Is it in the millions or in the billions? Reading and writing big numbers is not so easy. I've seen most of these words on the list before, but when I try to think about numbers in the millions, I get confused about what some of the words mean.
Problem Solver:
Remember the problem-solving strategy, Make It Simpler. Let's start with a small number and figure out what the words mean for the small number. If we look at how the small number is organized, it might help us read and write larger numbers. Let's use 365, the number of days in a year.
Remembers Rules:
There must be some rules to help us. Let's see, I'll look in our math book.
Loves Lists:
Let's list some things we know, and we can add other things as we go along. What do we know about digits? I'll write our study notes on the chalkboard.
