LESSON 1 Getting to Know Room 204
The class picture at the beginning of this unit shows Mrs. Dewey's fourth-grade class. Their classroom is Room 204 in the Bessie Coleman Elementary School in Chicago, Illinois. Mrs. Dewey's class wants to share information about themselves with their pen pals at Westmont School in Phoenix, Arizona. They also want to get to know their pen pals.
Mrs. Dewey asked her class what they would like to know about their new pen pals. Tanya said, “I'd like to know what they are interested in. I love to read. I can recommend some really good books!”
Jessie said, “I wonder if they have some really cool trails in Arizona! I love to ride my bike and roller blade!”
Keenya said, “I'll probably ask my pen pal to tell me about her favorite food, her favorite holiday, and her favorite color. I'll also ask if she plays an instrument. I'm learning to play a keyboard.”
“I'll ask my pen pal about the color of his hair and eyes, and whether he is short or tall,” said Jerome.
John said, “I'll ask my pen pal what his favorite sport is. I like soccer and basketball.”
