Populating the Forest

You are going to “populate a forest” for another group. This means you are going to put a mixture of colored tiles into a bag for another group to study.

• Agree with your group on a “recipe” for your bag. Your recipe must follow these three rules:
1. There must be exactly 50 tiles in the bag.
2. The number of tiles of each color must be a multiple of 10.
3. There must be at least two different colors in the bag.
• Write down your recipe. Use a table like this one:

• Count out the proper number of tiles of each color and put the tiles in the bag. Label the bag with the initials of the people in your group.
• Every person in your group must sign the paper with the recipe. This will show that everyone agrees that the recipe is correct.
• Seal your recipe in a separate envelope. Write your initials on the envelope.
• Give your envelope and the bag of tiles to your teacher.
