Here are some examples of variables in proportion from student investigations. Choose one of these pairs of variables to explore in this lesson and answer Questions 7–11 for that example. Then report your answers to the class. (Your teacher will help you choose the variables to investigate.)
Example 1: A Day at the Races (Distance/Time)
Students did a lab where they explored the relationship between distance and time for different methods of traveling: running, crawling, walking backwards, and hopping. If you choose this example, use a crawling speed of 6 feet every 3 seconds to find values for D and t.
Example 2: Quarters and Dimes (Quarters/Dimes)
In this problem students compared the number of dimes to the number of quarters for equal amounts of money. If you choose this example, use what you know about dimes and quarters to complete the table.
