Have students share several
combinations and the related
number sentences. After recording
several on the board, ask students
to suggest some way to record
them so they will know when they
have found them all. Use the table
to show all the combinations.
Students may recognize that if all
of the numbers 0–7 are listed for
one addend, they will have all
possible combinations. Some
students may recognize that for
each combination, they should have
another combination where the
numbers are "turned around," that
is, the addends are reversed.
0¢ + 7¢ = 7¢

5¢ + 2¢ = 7¢
6¢ + 1¢ = 7¢
7¢ + 0¢ = 7¢
