Have students use cubes to model the problems on a part-whole diagram. Draw a diagram to record several number sentences as students share their solutions. Students can also make tallies or draw dots in the diagram to show their solutions.

  1. Possible response: 11 = 2 + 9
  2. Possible response: 14 = 4 + 10

  1. Group eleven cubes into two parts. Write a number sentence that describes your cubes.
