The ongoing project, Hundreds of Coins, was introduced in Unit 1. Activities and possible prompts through Day 25 and Day 100 are included in Unit 1 Lesson 1. Encourage students to skip count using the number line to find the total amount in four jars. Alternatively, students can use a doubling strategy to find out how much is in 2 jars, then in 4 jars.

J. Coin Jar

Add one penny to each of the coin jars.

  1. What should we write in the next space on the charts?
  2. How much money is in each jar?
  3. What tools or strategies can you use to find the total in all four jars together?
  4. Can we make trades today? Why or why not?
  5. How much money will be in each jar 5 days from now? 10 days from now?
