TIMS Bit

The Subtraction Flash Cards were distributed in Units 2–5. All groups are available in this unit as well if additional cards are needed.

Students circle the facts they know well on the Subtraction Facts I Know charts (from Unit 2). Remind them if they know a fact, they also know its turn-around fact. Students should take the flash cards for facts they need to work on at home to practice with their families.

Ongoing Assessment

Use DPP item A and students' Subtraction Facts I Know charts to assess students' abilities to use mental math strategies to subtract including using doubles and thinking addition for the facts in all groups [E6].

See the Letter Home for targeted practice.

A. Subtraction Flash Cards: All Groups

With a partner, use your Subtraction Flash Cards to quiz each other on the subtraction facts in all of the groups. Separate the used cards into three piles: Facts I Know Quickly, Facts I Can Figure Out, and Facts I Need to Learn. Practice the last two piles again and make a list of the facts you need to practice at home.

Circle the facts you know quickly on your Subtraction Facts I Know chart.
