Volume of Cube Models
Est. Class Sessions: 2–3Homework and Practice
- Assign the Height and Volume Homework master. Students find height and volume using counting strategies such as skip counting and doubling. For example, in the first structure, each level is five cubes long so students can skip count by 5s to determine the volume. A corresponding number sentence is 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20. In the second structure, students can skip count by twos or by tens, or they can double ten.
- Assign DPP Items A–D.
- Assign Home Practice Parts 1–2.
Home Practice Part 1 reminds students to practice their strategies for the addition facts in Group B. In Part 2, students practice making ten to solve addition facts with sums between 11 and 20.
