TIMS Bit

This bit reviews the subtraction facts in Group 6. Students may use many strategies to find the answers. One useful strategy for this group is to “think addition.” For example, knowing the addition fact 8 + 4 = 12 can help solve 12 − 8 = 4 and 12 − 4 = 8. After students have written their answers, they can discuss the way they found the answers.

  1. 2
  2. 4
  3. 5
  4. 3
  5. 8
  6. 5
  7. 4
  8. 8
  1. 9
  2. Possible response: I know that 9 + 3 = 12 so 12 − 3 = 9.
