TIMS Challenge

This DPP item can be used as a Problem of the Week. Students may need base-ten pieces.

  1. The largest sum is 161 = 76 + 85 or 86 + 75 = 161.
  2. The smallest sum is 125 = 57 + 68 or 67 + 58 = 125.
  3. There are 12 different addition problems (24 if the turn-around facts are included), which generate 5 different sums. The sums are 125, 134, 143, 152, and 161.
