Use DPP item A to practice the addition facts in Group E. Students will need the Triangle Flash Cards: Group E, an envelope with a paper clip, and their Addition Facts I Know chart. After students sort the cards, they should clip and store the facts they know quickly and continue to practice the facts they do not know. Students can take the cards for Group E home to practice with their families.

Content Note

Based on work in previous grades, students may have developed strategies for these facts but are still working toward fluency. Many students will find most of the facts in Group E in the Facts I Can Figure Out pile. As students progress through Units 4–9, they will have many opportunities to practice and develop fluency.

Ongoing Assessment

Use DPP item A to assess students' strategies to add for the addition facts in Group E [E11].

See the Letter Home for targeted practice ideas.

A. Triangle Flash Cards: Group E Addition Facts

With a partner, sort the flash cards into three piles: Facts I Know Quickly, Facts I Can Figure Out, and Facts I Need to Learn. Clip cards in the Facts I Know Quickly pile together and place them back into the envelope. Practice the facts in the last two piles again.
