Lesson 3

Multiplication Stories

Est. Class Sessions: 2

Homework and Practice

Use Number Sentences in the Student Activity Book to assess each student's ability to complete open number sentences involving multiplication (e.g., × 4 = 4 + 4 + 4 and × 4 = 4 × 3) [E1] and to represent multiplication problems in stories and drawings [E2].

See the Lesson 6 Workshop for targeted practice with showing and solving multiplication stories.

  • Assign the Number Sentences page in the Student Activity Book.
  • Students write and illustrate multiplication stories for the problems listed in the Homework section of the Student Guide.
  • Assign DPP items I–L. Item L is a Challenge involving a Magic Square.

Math Facts. Bit I reminds students to practice the facts using the Subtraction Flash Cards: Group 4. For Task J, students solve subtraction facts problems and write number sentences to complete related fact families. For Bit K, students solve problems involving the multiplication facts for the 10s.

Students take home the Subtraction Flash Cards: Group 4 and list the facts they need to study so they can practice with a family member.
