Lesson 2

In Twos, Threes, and More

Est. Class Sessions: 3

Homework and Practice

  • Send home the In Twos Through Twelves Homework pages in the Student Activity Book. Encourage families to add new items to the list students generated in class.
  • Assign the In Twos, Threes, and More Homework section in the Student Guide.
  • Assign the Using Multiplication to Count Things in Groups Homework pages in the Student Activity Book.
  • Assign DPP items C–H. For Task D, students time how long it takes to count by 10s to 500 and backward by 10 from 500 to 0 using a calculator. Task F is multiplication stories that students solve using repeated addition or skip counting. Task H develops number sense using the number line.

Use the Using Multiplication to Count Things in Groups Homework pages to assess students' abilities to complete open number sentences [E1], represent multiplication stories [E2], and solve [E3] and show solution strategies [E5] for multiplication problems.

The Workshop in Lesson 6 provides targeted practice with solving and representing multiplication stories.

Math Facts. DPP Bit C and Bit G provide practice with subtraction facts in Groups 3 and 4. Bit E reminds students to practice facts using the Subtraction Flash Cards: Group 3.

Students take home the Subtraction Flash Cards: Group 3 and the list of facts they need to study so they can practice with a family member.

Assign Home Practice Parts 1 and 2. In Part 1, students use subtraction facts to solve problems. In Part 2, students solve two-step multiplication problems with facts for the 5s and 10s.
