Show Big Numbers

Est. Class Sessions: 2–3

Homework and Practice

  • Assign the Homework section on the Show Big Numbers pages in the Student Guide. Students practice writing big numbers in word form, expanded form, and standard form. They also practice comparing and ordering big numbers and rounding big numbers.
  • Assign Home Practice Parts 1–2. Home Practice Part 2 provides practice representing mixed numbers and improper fractions.
  • Students can take home the Spin and Read Big Numbers Game pages in the Student Activity Book. They can use pencil-and-paper-clip spinners and can play the game with a family member.
  • Assign DPP items A–D. Students use number sense to choose an appropriate unit to measure different items in DPP Bit C. In DPP Task D, students use < (less than), > (greater than), or = (equal to) to complete each number sentence.
  • DPP Challenge B asks students to solve a multistep problem with fractions. This item can be used as a Problem of the Week.

Math Facts. In DPP Bit A, students use the Triangle Flash Cards to self-assess their fluency with the multiplication and division facts for the 2s and 3s. Home Practice Part 1 reminds students to practice their multiplication and division facts for the 2s and 3s with the Triangle Flash Cards.
