  2. Johnny could have 2 quarters and 2 dimes, or 70¢.
  3. 8 + 2 + 4 = 14 coins

L. Carrying Coins

Use a collection of coins to help you solve these problems. Carla has 8 coins in her pocket. Kathy has only two coins in her pocket, but her coins total more than Carla’s.

  1. What are possible coins that each girl could have in order for that to be true?

  2. Johnny has more money than both Carla and Kathy. He has 4 coins. What coins might Johnny have?

  3. How many coins do Carla, Kathy, and Johnny have altogether?

  4. Show or tell how you solved Question 3.
