TIMS Task

Use DPP item L to practice multiplication of the Last Six Facts.

  1. Students can use manipulatives or drawings to show that 8 × 7 = 56.

  2. Moe used doubles. He knew 3 × 8 = 24, so 6 × 8 will be double, or 24 + 24 = 48.

L. Moe and Joe Smart

  1. Moe Smart is helping his brother Joe with his homework. Joe says, “Seven times eight is 54.” How can Moe show that Joe is wrong?
  2. Joe Smart says, “Six times eight is 46.” Moe disagrees with Joe. Use pictures or words to show how Moe can prove that six times eight is not 46.
