Homework and Practice

  • Assign the Radio Favorites and Candy Grab sections in the Homework section of the Student Guide. Students will need a copy of the Centimeter Graph Paper Master to complete Question 7 on the Candy Grab Homework section. These two homework opportunities can be assigned as students work on the lab.
  • Assign Home Practice Parts 3–4. In Home Practice Part 3, students practice using strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems with larger numbers. Students solve problems about a data set using a data table and graph in Home Practice Part 4. Home Practice Part 3 can be assigned after students read and discuss the story “A Matter of Survival.”
  • Assign DPP Items M–T. Students use strategies to solve subtraction problems in Bits M and S. For Challenge N, students solve problems using money. Students use mental math strategies to identify the unknown number in an addition or subtraction number sentence in Bit O. Students make a bar graph and answer questions about the data in Bit P. Students play the Digit Game for Addition and discuss their strategies for placing each digit in Bit Q. Students answer questions about data using a data table in Task R and Bit T.
