Take Your Time
Est. Class Sessions: 2Extension
Build a simple sundial and place it in a sunny window or outside. Have students note the position of the shadow at different times throughout the school day. An easily constructed sundial is suggested in "A Single-Handed Approach To Telling Time," by Thompson and Van de Walle, 1981. A pencil, heavy book, clay, and a sheet of unlined paper are all the materials needed. See Figure 5, reproduced from their article.
