TIMS Bit

Students can take home the flash cards for the facts they need to practice, or they can make cards for those facts on the Blank Triangle Flash Cards. Part 1 of the Home Practice reminds students to take home these newly prepared flash cards to study for the test.

Inform students when the test on these facts will be given. This test, which assesses students on all the division facts, is administered as DPP item O.

Ongoing Assessment

Have students record their progress learning the division facts in all groups [E8] on their Facts I Know charts.

See the Letter Home for targeted practice ideas.

A. Division Facts

With a partner, use your Triangle Flash Cards to quiz each other on the division facts. One partner covers the corner containing the number in a circle. This covered number will be the answer to a division fact, called the quotient. The number in the square is the divisor. Use the two uncovered numbers to solve a division fact.

Separate the used cards into three piles: Facts I Know Quickly, Facts I Can Figure Out, and Facts I Need to Learn. Make a list of those facts that are in the last two piles.

Put the cards back into one pile and go through them a second time with your partner. This time, your partner covers the number in the square. This number will now be the quotient. The number in the circle is now the divisor. Use the two uncovered numbers to solve a division fact.

Separate the cards again into three piles. Add the facts in the last two piles to your list. Take the flash cards for these facts home so you can practice them. Your teacher will tell you when the test on these facts will be given.
