Students need to feel comfortable with estimating numbers of
objects quickly. Do this activity several times with more than ten
cubes and less than ten cubes.
Place the cubes on the display randomly and ask students if
there are more or less than ten cubes. Then place the cubes in a
recognizable pattern, such as a domino pattern, and ask if there
are more or less than ten cubes. Discuss which is easier and why.
C. More or Less Flash
I will place a number of cubes on the display. I will
flash the light on and off. Tell me if there are more or less
than ten cubes.
