Daily Practice and Problems

Teacher Notes
X

Use DPP item I to develop strategies for the facts in Group F. Have connecting cubes readily available. Students can work with a partner. One student uses connecting cubes to represent one side of the equation and the other represents the other. They then use those models to find the missing addend.

  1.  8 + 4 + 2 = 10 + 4
  2. 9 +  3 + 3 = 15
  3. 9 +  7 = 3 + 7 + 6
  4. 4 + 4 +  6 = 14
  5. 5 + 5 + 5 = 10 +  5
  6. 5 +  5 + 8 = 9 + 9
  7. Possible response: I saw both sides of the equal sign have a 4 and I know 10 + 4 = 14. I also know 8 is the partner with 2 to make a ten, so the answer is 8.

Ongoing Assessment

Use DPP item I to assess students' abilities to determine the unknown number in an addition sentence relating three whole numbers for the facts in Group F [E15].

I. Missing Addends

Complete each number sentence so it is true.

  1. + 4 + 2 = 10 + 4
  2. 9 + + 3 = 15
  3. 9 + = 3 + 7 + 6
  4. 4 + 4 + = 14
  5. 5 + 5 + 5 = 10 +
  6. 5 + + 8 = 9 + 9
  1. Show or tell how you solved Question A.
