Make Connections with Subtraction

• Assign Home Practice Parts 4–5 after Part 1 of the lesson.
• Assign the Choose Which Way to Subtract Homework Masters after Part 3 of the lesson to provide practice with paper-and-pencil methods of subtraction. Send home the Subtraction Strategies Menu from the Student Activity Book with the assignment. Students can keep the menu at home. Ask students to explain the menu to their families.
• Assign DPP items W–Z. In item X, students solve a word problem that provides computation practice. In items Y–Z, students practice with multidigit subtraction.
• Assign Home Practice Parts 4–5. In Home Practice Part 4 students apply place value concepts to make number sentences true and solve addition word problems. Part 5 provides practice with place value concepts.

Math Facts. DPP item W is a quiz on the subtraction facts for Group A.
