Workshop: Fractions

• “The Clever Tailor” is based on the fairy tale “The Valiant Little Tailor” by the Brothers Grimm. We suggest using either of the following two collections that include this story:
1. The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales. James Stern, ed. Pantheon Books, New York, 1976.
2. Lang, Andrew. Blue Fairy Book. Create Space, Seattle, 2011.
• Silverstein, Shel. “Smart” from Where the Sidewalk Ends. HarperCollins, New York, 2005.

The narrator in the poem “Smart” has the same misunderstanding as the giant and the robbers in the story. The narrator thinks that a greater number of coins means more money, not realizing it's the value of the coins that counts.
