Materials Preparation

Prepare Sets of Fraction Circle Pieces. In Lessons 2 and 3, students will use pieces from the fraction circle sets. In Lesson 2, they will use the red, pink, yellow, and blue pieces. See Figure 1. In Lesson 3, they will use the red, pink, orange, and aqua pieces. Find the pieces that are needed for both lessons and place them in a resealable plastic bag. The remaining pieces will not be used in third grade. Before each lesson, ask students to take out the pieces that they will need for that lesson and put away the remaining pieces.
