  1. Nicole won a free airline ticket to Faraway Island. She has $1000 to spend while she is there.
    1. Nicole plans to spend 1/2 of the money on a hotel room. It costs $79 per night to stay at the Sunset Beach Lodge. Is it within Nicole's budget to stay at the lodge for 6 nights? Explain how you decided.
    2. If Nicole plans to spend 1/2 of her money on a hotel room and 1/4 of her money on food, about how much money will she have left to spend on souvenirs and entertainment?
  2. Nicole went bargain hunting for souvenirs for her friends. She found a fan for $0.65, 7 matching pens for $0.15 each, and a special on pencils: 5 for $1.60. If she buys 2 fans, all 7 matching pens, and only 3 pencils, how much money will she spend?
