TIMS Task

  1. 275 square cm.; I subtracted.
    300 sq cm − 25 sq cm = 275 sq cm
  2. 5 cm; Since it is a square, all the sides are equal. The area is 25 sq cm. Since 5 × 5 = 25 the length of each side is 5 cm.
  3. To find the width of the large rectangle I thought ? × 25 = 300 or 300 ÷ 25 = ? The answer is 12, so the length of the side is 12 cm.

The large rectangle has a total area of 300 square centimeters. The small white square has an area of 25 square centimeters.
