Display the notation 6:30 and ask students to use their individual clocks to show the time.
- What time did you show on your clock? (six-thirty)
- Where is the hour hand pointing when it is 6:30? (It is halfway between the 6 and the 7.)
- When it is 6:30, how many minutes after the hour
of six is it? (Possible response: It is 30 minutes
after six.)
- How many minutes will the minute hand need to move to reach 7 o'clock? (30 minutes)
Continue to display the notation for times to the
nearest hour or half hour asking students to show the
time on their individual clock.
Assign the Hour and Half Hour pages in the Student
Activity Book to students to complete independently.
Encourage them to use their individual clocks as
they work.
Use the Hour and Half Hour pages to assess students'
abilities to recognize the relationship between minutes and
hours [E8] and read and write time to the nearest hour and
half hour on an analog clock [E10].
