Lesson 5

Comparing and Ordering

Est. Class Sessions: 2

Summarizing the Lesson

Display the Two Number Order Game Boards Master. There are two game boards on the Master to easily display two players at one time. You will be Player 1 and the students will be Player 2. Show students the set of Number Representation Cards you prepared for display. The cards show numbers between 1 and 200 using different representations: base-ten pieces, symbols, and number sentences. Each player will draw cards one at a time from the set and put them in order from smallest to largest. The winner is the first to fill his or her game board.

X

Collect and save the Number Order pages from the Student Activity Book. Students will have the opportunity to play Number Order again during the Workshop in Lesson 7.

Read the directions on the Number Order pages in the Student Activity Book and play a demonstration game with the class.

X
  • How did you decide where to put this card?
  • Does it show a number closer to 200 or closer to zero?
  • How do you know?

Ask students to remove the Number Order pages from their Student Activity Book as you distribute sets of the Number Representation Cards you prepared. See Materials Preparation. Organize students to play this game with a partner.

X

Number Order can be modified to meet a student's specific needs by varying the Number Representation Cards. For example, if a student needs practice recognizing a number from base-ten pieces, only use those cards.
