TIMS Task

Ask students to share their solutions. Possible solutions include:

  1. 6 weeks; Tom needs almost $3. It takes 2 weeks to save $1, so it would take 3 × 2 = 6 weeks to save $3.

Another solution: Skip count by 50 until 300 is reached, and count the number of 50s.

  2. 6 weeks; Tim needs $10.00 − $5.50 = $4.50. He can save 75ยข in one week, $1.50 in 2 weeks, $3.00 in 4 weeks, and $4.50 in 6 weeks.
