Lesson 6

Sandwich Mass

Est. Class Sessions: 2–3

Extension

Encourage students to repeat Sandwich Mass using an apple. Students should record and organize their data in a table and a graph. Encourage them to compare their graphs from the sandwich and the apple. Then have them tell the stories of their graphs. The graph for the sandwich will have a best-fit line since the size of students' bites for sandwiches are constant. The graph for the apple will have a curve since the size of the bites of an apple vary (e.g., the first bite might be rather small, the next several bites are large, and the final bites are quite small since the core is reached).
