In this game, teams of students compete against each other to predict the volume of all the marbles in a graduated cylinder as one to four marbles are added to their cylinders. The winner is the team with the highest score after each team has added a total of 20 cc of marbles.

This game prepares students for the lab in Lesson 3 Volume vs. Number. It provides practice measuring volume by displacement and also provides the context for the data collection and predictions students will make in the lab.

Content in this Lesson

  • Reporting volume measurements using a number and a unit [E6, E7].
  • Measuring volume by displacement [E6].
  • Estimating the volume of small objects [E7].
