TIMS Task

Use this DPP item to practice using strategies to solve multiplication facts.

  1. 30 bricks. Possible response: I counted the bricks along the side of the Lizardland sign to see how many rows of bricks were behind the sign. There were 6 rows. Then I counted the bricks along the top of the sign to see how many columns there were and found 5 columns. Then I multiplied 6 × 5 = 30 to find the number of bricks.
  2. 24 bricks. Possible response: I counted 6 rows of bricks but only 4 columns. So there will be 6 less bricks behind this sign than behind the Lizardland sign because there is one less column. 30 − 6 = 24 bricks.
