TIMS Task

Refer students to the Multiplication Strategies Menu for Larger Numbers in the Student Guide Reference section.

    1. 162
    2. 3180
    3. 1314
    4. 5568
  1. Possible estimation strategy for 1A: Six quarters is $1.50, so 6 × 27 will be a little more than 150.

  2. Possible solution strategy for 1A: 6 quarters is $1.50, so 6 × 25 = 150, 2 × 6 = 12, 150 + 12 = 162.

    Possible solution strategy for 1B: 4 × 800 = 3200; 795 = 800 − 5; 4 × 5 = 20; 3200 − 20 = 3180
