Answers will vary for these questions depending on the students' preferences for each choice. They should first determine the relative size of the fractions, and then make their decisions. Have students explain why they chose the larger or smaller fraction and show how they decided relative size. For example, in Question C, 5/10 is the same as 1/2 ; 2/5 is less than 1/2 so 5/10 is larger than 2/5 .

  1. 4/5 is larger than 4/7
  2. 1/10 is larger than 1/20
  3. 5/10 is larger than 2/5
  4. 6/8 is larger than 2/3
  5. 5/12 is larger than 3/8
  6. 7/9 is larger than 6/8

Refer students to the Fraction Chart in the Student Guide Reference section.
