TIMS Task

Use Task P to practice multiplication and division of the last six facts in a problem-solving context using numbers that are multiples of ten.

The area of the large rectangle is 70 cm × 80 cm = 5600 sq cm. The area of the small rectangle hole is 7 cm × 40 cm = 280 sq cm. The area of the large rectangle hole is 2800 sq cm. I added the area of the two holes.

2800 sq cm + 280 sq cm = 3080 sq cm. Then I subtracted this from the total area of 5600 sq cm. 5600 − 3080 = 2520 sq cm.
