Summarizing the Lesson

To review the use of ten frames, play Ten Frame Flash for numbers from zero to ten. Mix the order of the prepared 0–10 Ten Frames Flash Cards. Ask students to watch as you display a flash card briefly then hide it from sight. Do not give students enough time to count since the objective is to learn to use the five and ten benchmarks. Students may answer orally or silently by pointing at their number lines.

  • How many counters did you see? How do you know?

Show the card again so they can see if they were correct. Repeat this for other numbers.

Observe students while the class is playing Ten Frame Flash to assess students' abilities to compare quantities to the benchmarks 5 and 10 using ten frames [E4].
