Number Sentences for Tile Designs

Write the following number sentences on a display:

• 3 + 5 + 3 = 11
• 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 10
• 1 + 2 + 3 + 1 = 7

Have student pairs make a tile design that matches the number sentence and discuss how their tile design matches your number sentence. Then have students think of another number sentence that matches their tile design. Finally, combine your number sentence and their number sentence to write a true statement.
