Mathematical Standards

2.MD.B
Relate addition and subtraction to length. (2.MD.B.6)
2.OA.A
Represent and solve problems involving addition and subtraction. (2.OA.A.1)
2.NBT.A
Understand place value. (2.NBT.A.1)
2.NBT.B
Use place value understanding and properties of operations to add and subtract. (2.NBT.B.7)

Standards for Mathematical Practice

MP1.
Make sense of problems and persevere in
solving them.
MP2.
Reason quantitatively.
MP4.
Model with mathematics.
MP5.
Use appropriate tools strategically.
MP7.
Look for and make use of structure.
MP8.
Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

Students compare the number line to the 200 Chart. They identify patterns and moves on the 200 Chart and represent them on the number line. They play Moving on the Number Line, a game involving adding and subtracting on the number line.

Content in this Lesson

  • Identifying, describing, and using patterns on 200 Charts and number
    lines [E1].
  • Connecting representations of quantities greater than 100 using number lines, 200 Charts, and number sentences [E2].
  • Representing addition and subtraction using number sentences, number lines, or 200 Charts [E3].
