Daily Practice and Problems

Teacher Notes
X

Encourage students to use 200 Charts. Adding 10 lands you directly below the number you started on. Subtracting 10 lands you directly above. Students use this pattern to add and subtract 9 and 11.

  1. 73
  2. 53
  3. 54
  4. 99
  5. 21
  6. Possible response: A and B are alike because you only have to move one row.
  7. They are different because when you add 10, you go to the row below and when you subtract ten, you go to the row above.

X. 200 Chart

Describe where you will land on the 200 Chart when doing the following problems.

  1. 63 + 10
  2. 63 − 10
  3. 63 − 9
  4. 47 + 52
  5. 39 − 18
  6. How is solving Question B like solving Question A?
  7. How are they different?
