Summarizing the Lesson

Use the Using Benchmarks Assessment Master and the Feedback Box to summarize the lesson. Before students complete the assessment, ask them to review Expectation 5 on the Math Practices page in the Student Guide Reference section.

  • What should you include in your explanation to clearly show your thinking? (Include a number line. Write the steps you used to decide where the number should be placed.)

Write students' suggestions on the board to remind them how to incorporate Math Practices Expectation 5 as they complete their assessments.

Use the Using Benchmarks Assessment Master with Feedback Box to assess students' abilities to represent large numbers on the number line [E3] and to explain their thinking when placing a number on a number line [MPE5].
